OVERVIEW——IWG horizontal centrifugal Pump

The IWG series single-stage, single-suction horizontal centrifugal pump is an advanced design, building on the performance standards of the IS type centrifugal pump and traditional horizontal pumps. This series has been expanded to meet different operational needs—such as varying temperatures and the types of media being transported. Derivative models include the IWR hot water pump, IWH high-temperature corrosion-resistant chemical pump, and the IWHB explosion-proof oil pump.

  • Good Cost-Effectiveness: The direct-drive structure offers high transmission efficiency and relatively low cost.
  • High Efficiency and Energy Saving: horizontal centrifugal pumps Equipped with a high-efficiency motor, the pump operates more efficiently, leading to energy savings.

INSTALLATION

  • Before horizontal centrifugal pumps installation, check for any loose fasteners on the unit and ensure that there are no obstructions in the pump’s flow passage, as this could damage the impeller and pump body during operation.
  • During installation, the weight of the pipeline should not be supported by the pump to avoid deformation of the pump.
  • Ensure that the foundation bolts are tightly secured during installation to prevent vibrations during startup that could affect the pump’s performance.
  • For ease of maintenance and safety, install a regulating valve on both the inlet and outlet pipelines of the pump, and a pressure gauge near the pump outlet. This ensures that the pump operates within the rated head and flow range, maintaining normal operation and extending the pump’s service life.
  • After installation, rotate the pump shaft to ensure that the impeller does not produce any friction or become stuck. If any issues are detected, disassemble the pump to identify the cause.
  • The pump can be installed using either rigid or flexible coupling methods (refer to the coupling installation methods).

START & STOP

Pre-Startup Preparation

  1. Check Motor Rotation: Test the horizontal centrifugal pumps motor’s rotation direction to ensure it is correct. It should rotate clockwise when viewed from the top of the motor towards the pump. Keep the test brief to prevent dry wear on the mechanical seal.
  2. Vent the Pump: Open the exhaust valve to allow the liquid to fill the entire pump body, then close the exhaust valve once the pump is full.
  3. Inspect for Normal Conditions: Check all components to ensure they are in normal operating condition.
  4. Prime the Mechanical Seal: Manually rotate the pump to allow the lubricant to reach the mechanical seal’s surface.
  5. Preheat High-Temperature Models: Gradually preheat high-temperature models at a rate of 50°C per hour to ensure even heating of all parts.

Startup Procedure

  1. Fully Open the Inlet Valve: Ensure the inlet valve is completely open.
  2. Close the Discharge Valve: Keep the discharge pipeline valve closed.
  3. Start the Motor: Observe the pump to confirm it is operating correctly.
  4. Adjust the Outlet Valve: Gradually open the outlet valve to achieve the desired operating conditions. If the pump is equipped with a flow meter or pressure gauge at the outlet, adjust the valve to keep the pump operating at the rated point as listed in the performance parameters table. Monitor the motor’s current to ensure it operates within the rated current to avoid overload and potential motor damage. The final valve position will depend on the pipeline conditions.
  5. Check Shaft Seal Leakage: Ensure that mechanical seal leakage is less than 3 drops per minute under normal conditions.
  6. Monitor Motor Temperature: Ensure the temperature rise at the motor bearings does not exceed 70°C.

Shutdown Procedure

  1. Cool Down High-Temperature Models: Gradually reduce the temperature at a rate of less than 10°C per minute, lowering it below 80°C before shutting down the pump.
  2. Close the Discharge Valve: Shut the discharge pipeline valve.
  3. Stop the Motor: Turn off the motor.
  4. Close the Inlet Valve: Shut the inlet valve.
  5. Drain the Pump: If the pump will be idle for an extended period, drain the liquid from the pump.

Maintenance and Care for the IWG Horizontal Single-Stage Centrifugal Pump

Maintenance During Operation

  1. Ensure Inlet Pipeline is Full: The inlet pipeline must always be filled with liquid. Avoid running the pump under cavitation conditions for extended periods.
  2. Monitor Motor Current: Regularly check the motor’s current, ensuring it does not exceed the rated current.
  3. Inspect for Noise and Vibration: After long periods of operation, if mechanical wear increases noise and vibration, stop the pump for inspection. Replace worn parts and bearings as necessary. Major overhauls are typically recommended annually.

Mechanical Seal Maintenance

  1. Use Clean Lubricant: The mechanical seal lubricant must be clean and free of solid particles.
  2. Avoid Dry Running: Never operate the mechanical seal under dry conditions.
  3. Pre-Startup Pump Rotation: Rotate the pump (or motor) a few times before startup to prevent sudden startup damage to the mechanical seal.
  4. Seal Leakage Allowance: Leakage from the seal should not exceed 3 drops per minute. If it does, inspect and address the issue.
